BFA F.A.Q’s. What, Who and When To Enter

Welcome to our FAQ page created to help answer some of those entry questions and make the Futurities a bit easier to understand.

Do you have to be a member to enter the BFA Futurities?

Yes, you must be a current member to enter and compete in the BFA WC futurities. You do not have to be a member to enter the Adequan Open 4D races or the XN Ranch Youth races.

  • Owner AND rider of each entry must be a 2025 member of BFA ..
  • Membership Fees are $125.00 for the first member of a household. Fees for additional family members (spouse and/or children 18 yrs and under living at home) are $25/person. Membership is not retroactive. You must submit a completed membership application and fee prior to receiving BFA points or participating at the BFA World Championship Futurity.

Are there any Open races held during the BFA World Championships?

Yes! There are two Open 4D races and 2 Youth Races held the weekend before the BFA WC begins. Come a few days early and enjoy the Lazy E and enter the Open and Youth races while you are here. Forms will post on our forms page, BFA App Online as well as shared on facebook.

Which Futurity is my horse eligible for?

  • Juvenile- 2022 Foals not competed on before November 15, 2025. Entry forms will be up Mid June.
  • Futurity – 4 Year Olds – 2021 Foals not competed on before November 15, 2024 . For those 2021 Foals holding to run as 5 year olds in 2026 you can enter the 4 year old futurity this November 2025, if not competed on before November 15, 2025 this would be their 1st futurity and there is a $30,000.00 sidepot for 1st time 4 year olds. There will be a form for 1st time 4 year olds that must be filled out and it will be available September 1st. Can Enter with out late fees until February 20th, 2025.
  • Futurity – 5 Year Olds – 2020 Foals not competed on before November 15, 2024. You can enter with no late fees until February 20, 2025. Both online and mail in forms available
  • Derby – 7 Year olds and under. Entry forms will be up Mid June.
  • $uper$take$ – 2022 Foals $uper$takes must be their 1st competition race.
  • Sales Stakes Slot Race – 3 year old entered in the Juvenile that went thru BFA Sale Ring there is an Entry fee for this race and its time is taken from the 1st go of the Juvenile Futurity. Entry Forms will be up by September 1st.

What comes with my paid entry?

Your paid entry in the Futurity, 5 Year Futurity & Juvenile includes your stall (one per entry), office fee and one exhibition. Your paid entry in the Derby includes your stall (one per entry) and office fee.

What money can I run for in the Juvenile Class?

  • Juvenile Class has $50,000 Added Money
  • $5,000 Amateur Sidepot – (top 5 after the top 25 average). Must have a copy of AQHA, APHA or APHC amateur card in BFA office before October 1s NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • $5,000 Jr Rider Sidepot – (top 5 after the top 25 average). 18 & under as of January 1st of competition year.

What money can I run for in the Futurity Class?

  • Futurity 4 year old has $70,000 Added Money
  • 1st Time 4 Year Olds- $30,000 Added Money – (1st competition race)
  • $10,000 Amateur- (top 10 after top 50 go back to their own finals). Must have a copy of AQHA, APHA or APHC amateur card in BFA office before October 1s NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • $5,000 Jr Rider Sidepot – (top 5 after the top 25 average). 18 & under as of January 1st of competition year.
  • $5,000 BFA Rookie Sidepot–  (never competed in BFA 4 yr old Futurity)
  • $15,000 Sale Grad Sidepot – 4 year old Futurity only. Must have went through BFA Sale Ring.

What money can I run for in the 5 YO Futurity Class?

  • Futurity 5 year old has $30,000 Added Money
  • $5,000 Amateur- (top 5 after top 20 go back to their own finals). Must have a copy of AQHA, APHA or APHC amateur card in BFA office before October 1s NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • $5,000 Jr Rider Sidepot – (top 5 after top 20 go back to their own finals). 18 & under as of January 1st of competition year.

What money can I run for in the Derby Class?

  • Derby (7 Year Olds and Younger) has $20,000 Added Money.
  • $5,000 Amateur- (top 5 after top 20 go back to their own finals). Must have a copy of AQHA, APHA or APHC amateur card in BFA office before October 1s NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • $5,000 Jr Rider Sidepot – (top 5 after top 20 go back to their own finals). 18 & under as of January 1st of competition year.

How can I run in the $uper$takes Slot Race?

60 $uper$takes slots are held by Lessees. They are allowed to sub-let their Slot or can turn back into BFA.
If you would like a Slot lease, email Cindy to get on the waiting list. If you hold a slot and want to sub-let or turn your slot back in, let Cindy Know ASAP.

Do I have to stall on-grounds for the whole event?

No, you can haul in for the days that you exhibition or compete and are not required to stall on the grounds. You will need to complete check-in at the office but the horse does not need to be present at that time.

When do Stalls go on sale?

Stalls are handled thru Lazy E even though they are paid with entry fee to Futurity, 5 Year Futurity, Derby & Juvenile.
Superstakes get stall with Juvenile entry. Even though stalls come with entries, Lazy E DOES want a stall form filled out. This form will be posted on our website, social media and the BFA app closer to time. All other stalls such as High Rollers, Open 4D, Tack Stalls and Extra Stalls are paid through Lazy E. All others stalls are paid thru Lazy E at www.OpenStalls.com these forms will be up around September 1.

What if I need an RV Hook Up for the event?

All RV hook ups are handled thru Lazy E those forms/website reservation link will be up around September 1st

Can my horse exhibition and still enter the Futurities?

Your horse can exhibition (in exhibition class) as long as there are no prizes (money, ribbons, trophies, awards, Calcutta’s. etc.)
No Ghost rides (exhibiting in a competition class or event).

What do I need to bring with me at “Check In”?

You need the current Registration papers (original or current watermarked digital copy) showing current owner’s name.
You need to bring negative Coggins papers for the horse and Health Certificate.
